The sexual politics of “The Hunger Games” →
As you certainly know by now, in “The Hunger Games,” Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl living in a dystopian far-future America where children from slave communities are forced to slaughter one another on television for the amusement of the wealthy. Katniss is moody, rebellious, deeply committed to protecting her mother and baby sister, and can incidentally shoot a man’s eye out through his...

Men of Cardiff, what the fuck is up with you...
Three times in one week I’ve had street harassment issues. Tonight I was walking home from the pub alone, and walked past a group of people - two girls and one guy. The guy grabbed my arms and told me talk to him, calling me sexy, laughing. He dropped my arms when I went to knee him in the balls. #girlpower Seriously though, this is not OK.

I absolutely know the lyrics to Running Up That Hill but every. single. time. I end up singing “and I’d get him to swab our faces” instead of “swap our places”. Every. Single. Time. I cannot help it.

Anonymous asked: Hey! I asked you: "What do you think about "the man has to do the first step" ect?" I'm curious to hear your opinion because until now, I've always found chivalry a good thing. You wrote about a similar topic a while ago, that's why I'm asking =)

My brother enjoyed The Hunger Games. He has been known to display “laddish” behaviour, sadly, but it makes me happy that he can enjoy a film with such a kick-ass female lead. Take note, film makers - you DON’T eliminate half your audience just by having a main character who is female. More please.

Sometimes I love my current state of...
Sent a bunch of important emails this morning, and applied for two actual jobs. I have nothing to do until I get responses. And so I’m lying in the park in the sun, in shorts and a t-shirt, reading Sherlock Holmes, eating dried pineapple and listening to Of Monsters And Men. Pretty good, not gonna lie.

Today has been good.
Free lecture at the museum about the photography of the Captain Scott Antarctic expedition, which was amazing and interesting and stunning and tragic. The Hunger Games for free thanks to Orange Wednesdays and Owain’s Unlimited card. Drinks with a friend who I’ve not seen in far too long. Summery sun. Love you, Cardiff.

Suppose the god of the bible does in fact exist......
yellow-dress: By Jack from Better Off Damned. Suppose the god of the bible does in fact exist… are Christians cowards? Let me briefly qualify the reasoning behind my question. I see whether god does or does not exist as a separate issue from whether he is or is not worthy of worship. Yet there are some things which are practically unheard of. Such as anti-theist Christians. It just so happens...

Oh my goddddd. Just because the rent on my house includes the bills, my housemates apparently feel the need to constantly have the heating on full. There are only so many times I can turn it off, just for them to turn it back on. There is only so far that my bedroom window will open. There are only so many layers of clothing that I can remove. IT’S ONLY MARCH I AM DREADING THE SUMMER.

Gender, feminism, other things, and the Hunger...
bohemianrandomnity: There are many reasons I love “The Hunger Games”.  First off, I am one of those people who didn’t read the books until right before the movie came out.  I adore books and my friends begged me to read them so I did.  And I fell in love.  One of the greatest things about this novel is that Suzanne Collins turns the tables on what we are culturally told about gender and race. ...
